Experience Daniel with Crossroads

The Book of Daniel gives us a snapshot of what happened when God’s people were brought into exile in Babylon through the story of several young Hebrew men who remained faithful and patient as they waited on God to rescue and restore them. As believers in the year 2020 we are faced with unique and historic challenges both as a church and individually. We are asking everyone connected to Crossroads, both near and far, to prayerfully consider committing to participate in this journey by reading and studying Daniel using the resources that will accompany the Sunday teaching, fasting and prayer.

***In order to receive the study materials as well as additional information on prayer and fasting, fill out the commitment form below. You will receive an email with the materials as a PDF attachment.***

STUDY

In order for our church family to experience Daniel together we have created a compendium to the Sunday teaching which will help you to take your study of God’s Word further through this series. The compendium is designed for you to use individually or with your family. It contains additional historical and theological information as well as study and discussion questions for you and your household to consider.

The the appendices you will find a Bible reading plan which will help you to stay on top of your reading everyday as we journey through Daniel together. There is also a guide to the 21 day fast that we will be undertaking as a part of this journey.

FAST

As a part of our series in Daniel our church will be observing a 21 day fast. In the Book of Daniel we learn that Daniel and his friends are being served rich food which was not in keeping with the Torah. Instead of capitulating Daniel strikes a deal. He and the other Hebrews would eat only vegetables for a period of time, if they were still strong and fit they would be allowed to continue and thereby keep the Torah.

Daniel’s fast consisted of only vegetable and water. The length and extent of your fast may depend on health issues, and dietary restrictions. If a strict fast is not an option for any reason you may instead consider giving up something you consider a luxury (such as TV, internet, social media, sweets, etc.) The goal of fasting is to draw closer to God. By giving up something “good” you hope to get something “better”.

PRAY

At the end of our series we will have prayer chain. You can sign up for this via the link below. We are asking everyone in our church to take part in this initiative. Though we are separated right now we feel that it is important to “come together” albeit over the phone and through our prayers to lift up our church, our city, our country and our world.

We will ask that people pray in half-hour intervals. When your half hour with God has ended you will then call the next person on the list to greet them and encourage them in their time with the Lord.

COMMIT

We are asking our whole church family, near and far, to prayerfully consider making a commitment to the Lord to faithfully seek Him through this time by doing the following. By filling out the form below you will let our staff and leadership know that you are “in”. Once you complete the form we will send you the Sermon Compendium, Bible Reading Plan, information on fasting, as well as weekly encouragement as we journey through Daniel together. Would you prayerfully consider committing to the following:

  • Tuning in for the live broadcast at 11am on Sundays. If your schedule doesn’t permit you to join the live service online, we ask that you make every effort to watch the sermon that week.

  • Read through the book of Daniel.

  • Take part in the 21 day fast that will begin in the third week of the series. There is more information in the compendium about fasting and we will provide further resources should you decide to commit.

  • Work through the additional materials provided in the compendium either individually or with your household.

  • Participate in the prayer chain in the final week of the series.
