Crossroads Bible Church
Children’s Ministries Purpose Statement and Core Values
Our Purpose Statement
Partnering with parents to help children discover and follow Jesus for a lifetime. (Mark 10:14)
Our Core Values
- Each child is a gift from God. (Psalm 127:3-5)
- Children should be kept safe (Luke 17:2)
- All children deserve to be treated with dignity. (Matthew 7:12)
- As is true for all humankind, a child’s greatest need is for a Savior. (Romans: 3:23, 6:23)
- Children can grow in grace and use their spiritual gifts for the glory of God. (2 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11)
Combined Nursery and Preschool1
It is our desire for your baby to feel God’s presence through our tender care, loving attention and safe environment. At CBC, we offer the following nursery care:
- Nursery for Infants (birth to walking)
We minister to our infants by tending to their needs in the most loving, nurturing way. This includes cuddling, rocking, changing diapers, feeding, and following any specific instructions from the parents (e.g., a special blankie, stuffed animal or pacifier, perhaps?). This is the beginning of a child’s experience of the love of Jesus at the most basic level.
- Preschool 1 for Toddlers (up to 3-years old)
When our babies reach the toddler stage, we begin to introduce God’s attributes by playing age-appropriate Christian music, reading short Bible stories, praying over the morning’s snack and singing songs.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to spend time in the Nursery/Preschool 1 class with their babies, until both the parents and the child feel completely comfortable with the separation. It is our intention that parents feel completely safe and comfortable entrusting us with their precious babies, so that they too may be able to have quality worship and fellowship with the family of God.
Pre-Kinder thru Elementary (4-yrs old – 3rd grade)
Our preschool and elementary programs provide age-appropriate, interactive learning experiences and multiple learning styles. This ensures that we reach every child in his/her learning style.
Our staff of teachers and parent helpers model God’s love through the implementation of:
- Lessons from God’s Word
- Bible songs that encourage interactive worship
- Memory verses to “hide in their hearts”
- Age-appropriate activities that help children apply Biblical truths to their lives
Club 45 (4th & 5th graders)
Our 4th/5th-grade class is specifically designed to reach the pre-teen mindset. It is geared toward preparing 4th and 5th-graders for middle school and Junior High Student Ministries. Because today’s pre-teens are incredibly influenced by media, Club 45 curriculum is media-driven and interactive in nature and seeks to equip “45ers” with tools to help them apply God’s principles to their daily lives.
Special Needs Ministry
Crossroads’ Special Needs Ministry Purpose Statement
It is the purpose of Crossroads’ Special Needs ministry to minister to and encourage the families of special-needs children, with acceptance and understanding.
We believe that ALL children have value and are gifted with an innate ability to know and experience God in their own way. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate inclusion* of God’s special children, that they might come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, and find a place of belonging and serving.
Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all—he is the greatest.” Luke 9:48
Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14
*At Crossroads’, inclusion means that special-needs children are not set apart in separate “special” classes, but included with their peers in mainstream Sunday School, assisted by our loving, special-needs buddies.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
This year’s VBS (June 26th-30th, 2017), Maker Fun Factory, was an adventurous and God-glorifying success!
75 kids enjoyed a hands-on, inventive, and interactive adventure where campers learned that every person is created by God and built for a purpose. Maker Fun Factory was open to kids ages 3-years old (+ potty trained) – 4th Grade. The cost was $45 per camper.
VBS programs include these six core features:
Single-point Bible Learning
One memorable Bible Point reinforced throughout each day—makes it easy to apply long after VBS is over.
Easy Bible Reinforcement
Helps families continue exploring the Bible messages.
High Quality Music
Solidifies life-changing Bible truths and will have kids and adults singing about God year-round.
Unforgettable Bible Exploration
Brings Scripture to life with interactive lessons and activities that reinforce the daily Bible message.
Gets kids to actively watch for God and recognize that he is working in their lives.
The largest child-to-child mission project in the country.
Safe Kids Policy
To ensure the safety of your children, we have a Safe Kids Policy in effect at CBC. In keeping with this policy, we are careful to:
- Obtain and follow up on references for all teachers/helpers.
- Run a background check of all teachers/helpers through FirstAdvantage, a leading provider of background screening solutions, affiliated with Group Publishing’s Shepherd Watch.
- Interview prospective teachers for giftedness and a passion for working with children.
- Provide exceptionally secure Sunday School check-in and check-out procedures through our ACS database.
We pray that these safeguards will help you to relax and personally experience God in our service through your own worship, prayer and teaching time.
We are always in need of teachers and helpers to “love on” our children. We also feel that it is very important for you to know what is happening with your children while they are at Sunday School and/or AWANA, so we encourage all parents to serve, in some capacity, at least once a month.
